Cannot install X86 but can install X64

I was able to install the X64 without any problems. I just could not get the network to work. Most of the hardware I have there are currently not 64 bit drivers available or are not signed and will not install. So I have been trying to install the x86. I have tried to upgrade to from XP pro. It goes all the way through and then on reboot I get the blue screen of death windows shut down. When I boot to the DVD which I purchased from Micorsoft,(after downloading and having the same problem) It boots to the DVD it asked which language and key etc. I click nexted then it goes to the next a waiting screen prior to the key screen and justs hangs. It will hang for a long time and then it gives the blue screen every time. Not sure what to do. I can not format as It never gets far enough to use that feature. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. I am done trying. If I could find drivers I would use the X 64. I have to say that the plug and play feature of Windows Vista has allot to be desired. I really like the look though. I am using an 80 gb hard drive 4gb of ram, abit mother board av8, 512 video nivida graphics card 3800 x2 amd 64 processor. The vista advisor stated that nothing needed to be changed prior to installation, just some drivers.
